Jordan, 18 years old and fresh out of high school, quits his car wash job and spends his $600 savings on a spray gun and Plasti Dip. He persuades his dad to let Jordan use his 2004 BMW 325ci for a matte grey colour change. Despite initial doubts, his dad agrees. Jordan takes pictures of the project and posts an ad on Craigslist, which leads to his first paid job and the start of “The Dip Dr.” Jordan goes to school full time at SFU, and spends all extra time on the business. By 2017, he has also mastered vinyl wrapping and still works from his parents’ garage in Surrey.
At the age of 4, Jordan began working on cars with his dad, John. John was a high school teacher by trade, but was mechanically inclined, performing engine swaps, suspension modifications, and maintenance on his own vehicles. Jordan fell in love with the artistic side of the automotive industry, experimented with detailed work, and obsessed over vehicle aesthetics. Jordan always believed that a car was a reflection of its owner’s style, like an extension of an outfit.
Jordan has saved up some money and rents a small shop in Fleetwood Surrey that can fit 3 vehicles. He hires his first part time employees, and the team of 3 begins to gain popularity. Work starts to pick up, and Jordan struggles to balance a growing business and his education at SFU. Higher-end clientele start to find out about The Dip Dr., and the shop gets busy.
Jordan starts to run booths at car shows and win wrap awards. A Canucks player reaches out to get work done on his Maserati, and higher end dealerships start to send cars in for wrap work. The Dip Dr. becomes well known in Surrey and surrounding areas as the go-to customization shop for high quality.
In December, the team relocates the shop to South Richmond just before the Covid-19 pandemic. Jordan drops out of SFU to focus on the shop, and business continues to ramp up. The Dip Dr. lands a contract with Tesla for wheel repairs and refinishing until Tesla changes policies. Jordan then starts Orko Auto, an e-commerce company selling Tesla and EV accessories.
The Dip Dr. takes the shop unit next door, and separates its cleaner film work (vinyl wrap, PPF, ceramic coating, tint) from the spray work (powder coating, sanding, and painting) in the original shop. Jordan debates changing the name, as new and potential clients tend to assume The Dip Dr. only applies Plasti Dip to vehicles. The team consists of 7 staff members, and all hands on installers are put in more formal training courses to standardize high quality.
In July of 2023, Jordan pulls the trigger on rebranding the business, and The Dip Dr. becomes DRX. DR continues the previous Doctor theme, and X replaces “Dip”. In July, the team throws the “DRX Launch Event” BBQ to celebrate the rebrand, showcase projects, and raffle prizes. Over 250 cars fill the parking lot, and DRX branded T-shirts sell out.
The team has specialized techs in each service to keep quality high, and offer clients a one-stop shop experience. Highly skilled staff members from Ukraine join the team. DRX is now composed of 11 staff members: 7 A-player installers, Waylen is promoted internally to a full time manager, Jordan oversees operations and trains staff, and his girlfriend Tanya handles accounting, administrative work, and social media. Jordan also hires his retired dad to help with management.
